Big Shiny Thursday: 90s Edition

I am headed out to another Ship Sharp–fronted fundraiser this evening, and I am thrilled to announce that the shindig will be 90s-themed. In honour of our forgotten pre-teen years and the trends that dominated the era, guests are encouraged to don their favourite threads and adorn themselves in all the glory that embodied the 90s. I imagine there'll be a broad spectrum of grunge kids, platform-heeled bubblegum pop enthusiasts, and futuristic pre-millennium kids in attendance—and I am thrilled to see just how many fads rise from the dead this evening.

In honour of the event, I thought I'd post a playlist of 90s gems to get me in the right mindset for this evening. I've been checking out some videos all week long and I've got to say—Canadian music kicked ass in the latter half of the 90s. We were pretty damn fortunate to be around in the heyday of this scene, not gonna lie. And away we go:

Miz Moffatt's 90s Collection:

Disclaimer: Now, I would never be able to fit all the artists I'd like to on this list (given space constraints)—but it's a nice sampler, regardless.

The Kim Band, "WHAT A DRAG!"
(Girlology, 2001)
(All right, a bit of a cheat—this was an early 2000s song, but it kicks ass none the less)

Limblifter, "Tinfoil"
(Limblifter, 1996)

I Mother Earth, "One More Astronaut"
(Scenery and Fish, 1996)

Ashley MacIssac ft. Mary Jane Lamond, "Sleepy Maggie"
(Hi How Are You Today?, 1995)

The Inbreds, "Any Sense of Time"
(Kombinator, 1994)

Sky, "Love Song"
(Piece of Paradise, 1998)

Alanis Morissette, "You Learn"
(Jagged Little Pill, 1995)

Michie Mee ft. Estero, "Don't Wanna Be Your Slave"
(The First Cut is the Deepest, 2000)
(All right, one more date cheat for the road…)

The Odds, "Make You Mad"
(Nest, 1996)

Big Sugar, "Diggin' a Hole"
(Hemi-Vision, 1996)

k.d. lang, "Miss Chatelaine"
(Ingenue, 1992)

All right, I suppose I ought to leave off there, otherwise I will just keep on posting and posting. I hope you revel in the mix, maybe (re)discover a few artists—meanwhile, I'll be adding the last touches to my 90s outfit for the evening's entertainment!
