Christmas with Clarins 2011: The Passion Collection

At the Clarin's event I told you guys about a while back, we were sent home with their Passion Make Up Collection, which is their limited edition holiday line. And as the holidays are fast approaching, I thought I'd give you my 2 cents on the line - potential gifts to others or to yourself of course ;)

Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in No7 Smokey Passion

Now I've been eyeing up the permanent shades of these eyeshadows for MONTHS now so you have no idea how excited I was when I heard that there was a new colour coming out - and that I was going to get to test it out!

This quad has a really strange combination of shades - a shimmery copper, a gel silver glitter, a dark cool shimmery taupe, and a black with shimmer. I only say these shades are strange because 1) the 2 mid-toned shades are at the opposite ends of the spectrum of cool and warm and 2) there's no highlight.

The gel glitter is more like something I'd pat on to a colour or put on my inner tear duct rather than something I'd use to highlight my brow bone, and in this sense I was a bit disappointed. However, I like that you can cover a warm or cool look with this one palette, which I think is quite handy if you are out or if you are on holiday where you will be out a lot, especially with the option of glitter! Yes, I did criticize it for being impractical, but it is much easier to use than loose glitter so for those inclined - this is good stuff.

While I feel the taupe is a bit too dark for everyday, the copper has flung me out my discomfort of copper shades - it is TRULY beautiful, and makes eyes pop like mad. I'm really surprised at myself, as this has been the shade that I've reached for the most out of everything in the collection! :)

Now I haven't tried these wet, but I find they work well with brushes, but for an extra boost of colours, the provided sponge-tip applicators are the best! And this is something you don't often hear from bloggers ;) The formula is so soft, blendable and lovely to work with - up there with MAC eyeshadows, no complaints at all!

Would I buy this for myself? At £30, I think I would pick the permanent shades just because I'd get more use out of them and I already know the formula is impeccable. But the Smokey Passion is definitely a great palette to have. If you are a party-goer and could do with a small palette just for that - look no further, this is it! :)

Passion Face Palette

I must have repulsed a bit when they told me they were giving us a pearly all over powder - I am scared of anything glittery all over the face, as the risk of looking like a disco ball is something I don't take my chances with. But in the name of blogging, I gave it a shot - and it's lovely.

As you can see, I'm much too impatient for photographs and give products a go as soon as I can - but the engraved areas were once sprayed with gold. Now THAT freaked me out, but I surprisingly appreciated the highlighting effects. But once that was gone, I wasn't quite sure.

There isn't any doubt that the powder is weightless, silky and gorgeous. I had a couple of weeks where my skin looked dull and lifeless, and a pop of this over the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose lifted everything up a bit. It just kind of adds a bit of light and is much more "all over" than a highlighter. Highlighters also tend to make parts protrude, whereas the minimal sheen of this powder illuminates more than anything!

That being said, I don't think the effects are £35 noticeable. I think I noticed only because I knew that was what it was meant to do, and sometimes I did feel that it was a bit pink for my liking, and wondered how it would pull on very pale people or very dark people.

You could probably guess that at £35, I would never have gotten this for myself. The effects just aren't noticeable enough, and as a person who rarely has dull skin, I don't think I could justify spending that! I think a better alternative would be to get a face powder with a slight sheen in a few shades lighter than your skintone, and personally, I'd prefer to go all out with a highlighter :)

However, I would recommend this for people who do struggle with dull skin or who are looking for a gift or a little Christmas treat with something a little bit special than other things on the market ;) It's definitely a luxury product - not a necessity, but lovely to have!

Rouge Prodige in No131 Passion Rose

Probably the most uncontroversial for me in this line, is the lipstick in Passion Rose. A very autumnal shade, it pulls a very warm rose shade with a slight shimmer. It's darker than my natural lip colour which always makes me go plain on the eyes (which is something I don't often do in the winter) so it's something I have to plan to use.

That being said, I LOVED the formula! It's really easy to wear and top up without a mirror because it's sheer, but pigmented enough to call a lipstick and make a difference to your look. It's also perfect for the weather because it's moisturizing, AND it smells good - Idk what it is, marzipan? Anyway, to me, they are very similar to the Dior Addict lippies in formula!

I think this is the most universally likeable out of the collection - the shade would suit everyone and may not already exist in a lot of people's collection. It's very mature and lady-like, and it would be handy for days where you just cannot be bothered but still want to look polished.

For £17 it's not cheap, and I would probably have gone for another shade that I would wear more often - but that only goes to show that the formula is absolutely lush! :) Definitely a better-packaged and more affordable version of the Dior Addict lippies!

L to R: Lipstick, Powder, Eyeshadow Quad.

If you needed to pick one for a gift here is what I would recommend:

* For someone that loves the luxury and is well into make up: Passion Face Palette

* For someone that loves to get ready for a night out: Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in Smokey Passion

* For anyone, but particularly someone that loves a natural look: Prodige Lipstick in Passion Rose

All in all, I think this is a unique collection with great pieces. May not be to everyone's taste, but I think all three products bring something to tackle the harshness of winter, or complement the darker shades associated with the season :)

You can probably tell that these aren't things that I would've bought myself, but having received these as a gift, I can tell you now that they are 100% appreciated and absolutely loved! So if you do decide to get these as a gift for someone, I'm sure they'd feel the same as I do. If you're looking for something practical for yourself, the formulas of the eyeshadow and lippies are great - but go for a shade you'll use, and don't be mesmerized by the fact it's limited edition. As for the powder, it's a luxury and a gift to you or anyone else - no question ;)

FOTD: What Do I Do With You Amber Diamond?!

A few days ago I posted about my Dior haul, and picked up what is probably the most raved-about highlighter in the blogging community - Dior Shimmer Powder in Amber Diamond 02.

Now I was going to get this baby no matter what unless it was absolute crap because I only have 1 other (not amazing) powder highlighter in my collection so it wasn't like I was using my dosh on something I already had - so I walked out of the store liking it, but not completely sure as to how I was going to use this product in the way I loved it most..

The sad thing is, I'm still not 100% sure! :(

So far, I've used it in 3 ways on my face, all with the MAC 109. I've used the lightest two shades on the left which gives a really sharp highlight that I will adore for the evening, and I've used all the colours together or the two colours on the right, both of which look invisible on my skin until light hits in, at which point it gives me a sheeny glow.. like this:

Face:
- MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC25 mixed with Bourjois Healthymix in 56
- Bourjois Compact Powder in 73 Miel Dore
- MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC35
- Bobbi Brown Correcter in Peach
- MAC Blush in Melba
- Rimmel Sunshimmer Bronzer in Medium Matte
- Dior Amber Diamond

Eyes:
- Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Deep Dark 03
- Dior Amber Diamond
- MaxFactor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black

Lips:
- MAC Lipstick in Vegas Volt

As you can see when it hits the light (second picture), it definitely gives me cheekbones, browbones the whole shabam - but otherwise (first picture) it really doesn't show.

And as much as I could make use of the 2 ways I've found to use Amber Diamond, I feel like I want an inbetween - some cheekbone enhancing way that actually shows subtly on my skin without having to constantly stand underneath direct light because I was looking forward to using this in the winter, when I've got matte foundation/blushers and want some dimension!

Or do I have a totally weird sense of what a highlighter is?! :P

I must say, I quite like it as an eyeshadow though, and the consistency is to die for!

So anyway, I wanted to ask all the Dior Amber Diamond ravers out there - how do you use yours day-to-day? What brushes do you use, which colours and how much do you use?

Hopefully I will have a better grasp of why other people rave about Amber Diamond after this post :) Thanks in advance :)

I Got Dior-ed.

I was all up for some Dior-haulage on Monday after my stressful week prepping for my visa appointment. I had some vouchers off family, and thought I'd use them on things I usually couldn't afford/justify. I still get pangs of guilt though - Dior is, afterall, a luxury brand and I'm a student and unemployed :P Yep. Bless Emma, I texted her completely freaking out at whether I was mental or just excited - I came to the conclusion that it was a bit of both :P

First up is what I originally went in for, which is the ever-hyped Dior Amber Diamond :) I lacked a natural powder highlighter so I naturally went for the beauty blogger's favourite ;)

Phwoarrrrrr. Need I say more?

I absolutely LOVE how unique this product is. You can highlight in different ways, like using the lighter side for defining the cheekbones, and a colour more similar to your skintone for a natural glow, AND you can also use it as an e/s or even contouring.

I feel like Amber Diamond isn't your average highlighter though, because it gives almost a duo-chrome sheen, instead of your conventional, lighter-shade highlight. So although I love it for what it is, it's not HG just yet - I think I need get to know it better first! :)

This is the goodie that I wasn't supposed to buy :P As I said in my wishlist post, I've been looking for a sheer peach lippy so I picked up a Dior Addict Lipstick in Miss Dior 343 after the MUA tried it on me :)

It's PERFECT.

This lipstick is nothing like what I thought it would be - it's not watery, slippery, or a colourless mess but balmy, naturally glossy and decently pigmented. It's what I always wanted tinted lipbalms to be - that little bit more pigmented! :) It's also my answer to a better quality 17 Mirror Shine.

I'm really glad I bit the bullet because it's perfect and I can see myself using it everyday! But it is quite expensive, so I hope I find a cheaper alternative before I run out :P It's a little treat to myself for now ;)

Dear Natalie Portman, please may have your eyebrows and eyes? Thanks.

As a quasi-hippy, I do have a little problem with Dior's packaging being unnecessary extravagant. In the future, I hope to make an effort to choose other brands over Dior because of this, unless the product is just undupe-able - which these two I think are!

But there you go :) I'm really happy with my haul, and spend less time feeling guilty the more I use them.  They filled big gaps in my collection, and I know I will get almost daily use out of them - very excited! :)

How about you, have you ever got Dior-ed? :)
What's your favourite product from them, or what do you want the most?! :)

Keep your eyes out for some FOTD's with these gorgeous products!

Review - MAC Cream Colour Bases

Out of all the things I have from MAC, I think the Cream Colour Base is the only non-"cult" product, which is kinda funny because this is up there with lipsticks and concealer from MAC for me!

I have the colour in Hush, which is a peach with a golden sheen in the pot, but when swatched, it's a very subtle light peach sheen.

The Packaging: Standard MAC, very similar to blushes just a lot smaller. You get 3.2g.. I think. My sticker's ripped.

The only issue is that it is quite pricey for what you get, as I've had this for about a month and I've already got a significant dent. But honestly, I think it's worth it.

The Purpose: These are multi-purpose cremes, and due to the range of colour, can be used for different things. There are darker ones i.e. Virgin Isle which are more of a creme blush, but this one and ones like Shell and Pearl, are usually meant for highlight. Some CCB's you can use on your eyes or lips, but this you have to check on the instructions as some CCB's aren't recommended for anything other than your face.

The Formula: Amazing. This is nowhere near as slippery and wet as the creme blushes, and are more like paintpots, just a little bit drier. It's the right consistency to just take on your finger and pat on as highlight. It lasts for ages, and makes your blush last for a very long time as well.

The Highlighting Colours: Shell and Pearl are more white-based colours which are excellent for highlighting for pale to medium skin tones. They are also more versatile because you can use them as eyeshadow bases and any colour will work on them. Same with blush, any colour blush will work with these 2 on the cheeks.

Hush, on the other hand, being a more peachy pink colour when applied, is an excellent highlight for everyone, maybe except for the palest of the palest. Medium skin-tone people are perfect for Hush, as it is so so subtle yet beautiful. However, it's less versatile in terms of the eyeshadow and blush that you can use for it. It looks amazing with my NARS Sin, which is more of a purply pink mauve, but not that great with my MAC Style which is more coral, because it contrasts with the pink of the CCB. It has more limitations than Shell and Pearl, but also has the advantage of being extremely day-wearable, subtle and elegant. Not that I'm biased..

I think the rest of the colours are less suited for highlight but I may be wrong.. these 3 are the ones that I considered, looked-up and spoke to the MA about the most :)

L: Swatched R: Blended Out
The Result: Amazing. It changes highlighting from a shimmery/glittery mess to an actual and easy accentuation of features. It's not overpowering, it's natural, and perfect for everyday wear. I know it's expensive and I know it runs out faster than other products but god, it's worth it. A definite rebuy.

Have any of you guys tried CCBs? If so, which one and how do you like it?

MAC Haul - Winter 2010

Hi guyssssss - I'm 2 away from 100 followers! Woo, thanks everyone! :)

So the 'hiatus' has gone tits up - I'm finding that I'm not going out as much because I've gotta save my mula so I'm home trying to do work and.. this is where I usually end up - on Blogger.

Anyway, on the last day of term and yesterday, I went to MAC to get a few things, so I thought I'd do a haul post because they were both too small to do one each :P Being an airhead, I now realise I'd already shown you guys one of my lipsticks that I got in a blogsale, and also that I'd gotten an eyeshadow called Tempting in the end of October that I forgot to include in the photos.. ugh.

The items here are..
- MAC Creme Colour Base in Hush
- MAC Lipstick in (L) The Faerie Glen (LE from the Tartan Tales) & (R) Creme Cup
- MAC 239
- (imagined) MAC Tempting E/S

Tempting E/S:
I got this in Oxford, and I had an awful MA who did nothing in helping me choose between this and Woodwinked. I concluded that Woodwinked might be too orange, and if not, it's a bit lighter than what I was looking for anyway :) I love this colour!
(This picture is from My Gorgeous Pink Cheeks on her post.)

Creme Colour Base in Hush:
The CCB was a semi-impulsive buy, triggered by Tanya's video on contouring, highlighting and blush. I'd never really heard of CCB's before, and I haven't really used it yet, only swatched, so I'm really excited to give it a go.

The funny thing was, the MA there (this was bought in Japan) kept on insisting it was an eyeshadow-only base and that I shouldn't use it on my face.. what the.

The Creme Cup & 239: was bought in Birmingham during Christmas shopping with my lovely boyfriend (who puts up with my make-up obsession all the time.. bless <3).

I figured that an eyeshadow brush which I will use everyday should be a high-quality and long-lasting investment. I was very disappointed the first two times I used it, as it seemed so flat, not picking up any colour and kind of squeaky against my eyelid.  However, after 2 washes it's starting to warm up to me ;P.

As for the lipstick, I went in to buy Angel, but I was very surprised at how blue-toned it looked on me. I had the same issue with Creme Cup but my boyfriend really really liked it, so I decided to get it. I've found that under different lighting, it looks different.. so atm it is a very mixed lipstick, with lots of confusion mixed into generally happy-times.. :P

I also got another free make-up kind of bag as well as a sample of Prep & Prime but Idk if I'll use it.. I still have the last tube left!

So there is my MAC haul saga.. Well done if you've read all the way down to here lol! I actually have a few more items waiting for me back in England that I ordered, so keep your eyes peeled for that and until then..

Let me know what you've gotten from MAC recently :)

My First Eyeko Experience - Surprise Gift Set & Free Gift! :)

From the first couple of weeks of starting my YouTube channel (video on this is attached at the bottom), I've been aware of the brand Eyeko, but never got around to ordering from them. I finally did so last week when I saw their Surprise Gift Set worth £20, retailing for £10 - I figured, I don't know what I want to get and so I might as well leave it to them :) Was a bonus that I was getting double my money's worth!

Now I was a cheeky git and had signed up to be an Eyeko Ambassador to see what it was, when I was in the process of ordering from them last May. I never finished the order. Being even more of a cheeky git, albeit completely naive, I entered my own ambassador code this time around, being completely oblivious to the first sale gift, or that you weren't supposed to enter your own! So that came in the post as well on the same day. Feeling a bit guilty, LOL.

So here it is:
- x2 Eyeko London Lips in Shoreditch (L) & Knightsbridge (R)
- Eyeko Magic Bronzer Brush in Rio
- Eyeko Cheeky Colour in Glow Getter

The Cheeky Colour is pretty cool, in that the packaging opens like this.. (it also has a mirror behind the blush!)

And here are the swatches:
(L: Magic Bronzer Brush in Rio; R - Cheeky Colour & London Lips)

First Impressions..
I have my doubts about the bronzer. It is a brilliant idea and I know I will use it because it is such a great idea (great for on the go, and perfect brush size), and it's matte and somehow they've managed to choose the best colour for me. But if you click on the picture, you'll see a massive fall out on my ring finger, and it's difficult to put the lid on the brush. Hmm.. we shall see if I find a way around that!

As for the Cheeky Colour - I am SO excited to try it. They are the perfect colours for highlights, and I've wanted a pink-toned one for ages. A bit too shimmery for blushes for my taste.. but it may be different with the darker colours.

I'm very confused about the lipglosses. They aren't crazy pigmented, but I love the consistency. The packaging only allows for a little bit to come out and you need a lot to cover your lips, so I've resorted to using fingers which I don't usually like to do. They are tiny, for being £6.50. Hm. We will see after I use them more! :)

I was crossing my fingers for a Fat Balm, but I guess that will have to be purchased on its own, alongside the 3-in-1 Cream and the Eyeko Mascara :)

Any thoughts, ladies? Do keep your eyes out for reviews, and use my code above, and get a free gift if you spend more than £15 :)

<3yu

P.S. If you couldn't tell, the fact that the 1 lipgloss was sent to me for free hasn't had an influence on what I've said here.. :)
